La Agencia Internacional para la Investigación del Cáncer clasifica al cadmio como un carcinógeno humano, un consumo excesivo de este metal pesado (considerado como uno de los más tóxicos) puede provocar diferentes problemas de salud, como el debilitamiento óseo, diarrea y vómitos, daños en el sistema nervioso central y en el sistema inmunológico, cáncer, entre otras enfermedades.
