Desde hace ya varios años, San Martín ha experimentado un fuerte crecimiento de empresas que se dedican a la extracción de mineral no metálico que se usa en la construcción, muchas de estas empresas trabajan sin respetar las normas ambientales.
Herlith Torres Arévalo, es una ciudadana que ha denunciado que una de estas empresas que trabajan en la región en la extracción material no metálico estaría incumpliendo las normas ambientales dañando la faja marginal en un tramo de aproximadamente 300 metros en el río Huallaga.
