Elena Santa María de Acosta nació el 27 de noviembre del 1926 en la localidad de Chincha Alta, cerca al distrito de Pucacaca, en la provincia del Huallaga, departamento de San Martin, es la segunda hija de siete (07) hermanos. Sus padres fueron el Sr. Agustín Santa Maria López y la Sra. Bonifacia Ruiz de Santa María. Su infancia lo vive en la ciudad de Lamas, en una casa cerca de la Plaza de Armas. Años después se traslada a la ciudad de Tarapoto, donde contrae matrimonio a la edad de 19 años, con José Amador Acosta Sandoval de 25 años, un noble trabajador público y carpintero. Fruto de este matrimonio nacen sus cuatro (04) hijas: Lily, Nancy, Henny y Dolly.
Tarapoto una ciudad que comenzaba a crecer comercialmente y la Sra. Elena Santa María una mujer creativa y detallista; aprende el oficio de corte y confección de prendas de vestir, gracias a su madre Bonifacia que también realizaba esta actividad.
La Sra. Elena Santa María era una mujer muy creyente y devota de la Iglesia Católica, llegando a apoyar en varias ocasiones con donaciones a la Iglesia de Tarapoto. Por ese entonces, a finales de los años 60’s la Nueva Iglesia Matriz de Tarapoto se encontraba en plena construcción y al no tener más recursos para continuar, la congregación pasionista que dirigía la iglesia de Tarapoto pone a la venta el terreno de la antigua Iglesia que tenían al frente de la plaza de armas. Es así que primero le ofrecen los pasionistas a la Sra. Elena Santa María la posibilidad de comprar una parte del terreno.
Su empeño por siempre dar lo mejor, la lleva a contratar los servicios profesionales de Arquitectos e Ingenieros de la Capital para la construcción del EDIFICIO SANTA MARIA, donde los Hermanos Ocampo realizan el diseño y la supervisión de obra que ejecutaba la empresa constructora Graña y Montero. La construcción del Edificio Santa María lo realizó gracias a un préstamo bancario y tardó en concluir la edificación algunos años, entre mediados de los años 70’s hasta fines de dicha década. Logrando inaugurarse en 1980. Su diseño y arquitectura marcó una pauta en el centro de Tarapoto, un edificio adelantado a su época.
En el primer nivel se localiza dos (02) locales comerciales con mezanine y el ingreso al tercer y cuarto nivel de oficinas. Los acabados en los interiores fueron de primera para la época. Estos materiales los trajo desde Lima vía área en un avión Hércules.
En la actualidad, el Edificio Santa María resalta en el entorno urbano de la Plaza de Armas de Tarapoto, por su calidez y composición, llegando a ser materia de estudio en cursos de la carrera de Arquitectura de algunas Universidades de Tarapoto.
El empeño, dedicación y visión de futuro de la Sra. Santa María fueron sus pilares para lograr todo lo que se proponía. También, tenía una personalidad servicial y gentil. Los productos que vendía en su tienda: telas, pasamanería, ropa de vestir, calzado, cosas del hogar, electrodomésticos y otros. Todo era de muy buena calidad.
Era una mujer que siempre daba lo mejor de sí, en todo lo que hacía, en cada camisa, en cada prenda de vestir, en los artículos que vendía, en su casa, su negocio y en los edificios que construyó. No le tenía miedo a los retos, lo que ella se proponía lo hacía.
También, era una hermana y madre que siempre apoyó a los suyos, nunca los dejó de lado, siempre estaba pendiente que todos pudieran estar bien.
Sin embargo, tuvo golpes duros en la vida donde supo seguir adelante a pesar de las adversidades cuando en la época del terrorismo a finales de los años 80’s no podía abrir su tienda frente a la plaza de armas.
En el año 1997 Perdió a su esposo el Sr. Amador Acosta. En 1999 sufre un accidente en el baño de su habitación de su casa, al resbalarse en la ducha, fracturándose la cadera, pudiendo recuperarse, pero con limitaciones para poder caminar con normalidad.
Uno de los golpes más duros que sufrió la Sra. Santa María fue la pérdida de su menor hija Dolly Acosta de Iberico, una tristeza profunda para una madre.
Años más tarde, en el 2010 pierde las fuerzas de sus piernas por la edad, imposibilitándola poder caminar.
El pasado sábado 01 de agosto del 2020 partió al cielo una mujer que luchó y trabajó toda su vida e inclusive a sus 93 años quería recuperarse para poder ir a trabajar.
La Sra. Elena Santa María fue una mujer fuerte, creativa, servicial, visionaria y ejemplo a seguir para sus cuatro 4 hijas, 12 nietos, 14 bisnietos y 1 tataranieto.
Sin duda, nos deja una enorme enseñanza de superación, empeño y dedicación, nos da una lección que todo en esta vida es posible.
